Damas Gratis is undoubtedly the most important cumbia band in Argentina. It makes its debut UK concert on Thursday 13th July at the Electric Brixton in London.

The band was formed in 2000 by Pablo Lescano, considered by many as the founder of ‘Cumbia Villera’ translated ‘Slum Cumbia’ a popular sub-genre of cumbia. This style was influenced by Colombian cumbia and Peruvian chicha, Mexican cumbia sonidera, reggae, ska, and Argentine punk rock, its lyrics deal with social themes of everyday life in the ‘villas’ or slums, and to this day, Cumbia Villera remains a defiant and socially conscious style of cumbia, and Damas Gratis at the forefront of this musical movement.

Damas Gratis has won Best Album by a Tropical Group award by the prestigious ‘Premios Gardel’ for their album Esquivando El Éxito, and have played stadiums and international festivals such as Lollapalooza, Vive Latino and Primavera Sound, and have collaborated with many artists including Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, Fidel Nadal, and Andrés Calamaro.

Opening the show will be Argentinian singer Sophie Oliver and London based group Imperio Bamba.
